As part of the technology transfer activities of the Chair of Leadership in Teaching in Edible Insect Production and Processing (CLEIC), this initiative aims to establish a pan-Canadian research network in the field of insects for human and animal consumption.

The proposed specific objectives are to:

 • Improve communication and collaboration between different research and educational institutions.
 • Plan, organize, and administer projects for advancing new scientific knowledge.
 • Strengthen/optimize innovation support to businesses by promoting collaborative projects.
 • Develop, promote, and exchange educational content at different levels of education.
 • Accelerate the training of highly qualified personnel.

Network development

In order to assess interest in this initiative, a survey was conducted, sent to 180 contacts across Canada, with two reminders sent (initial on February 13, reminders on March 17, and April 12). By the deadline of April 30, 73 responses had been received.

Stakeholders in the sector:

 • Similar interests in both academic and industrial environments.
 • A strong interest in developing educational content.
 • The majority of respondents were from Quebec, which could be explained by networking and sector development (collaboration between public, private, and academic sectors within the Edible Insect Industry Table, TFIC).

Remarkable results from the results on April 30, 2023

An initial webinar meeting was held on May 29, 2023, with 23 participants, during which we had the opportunity to discuss the specific objectives and activities of the network. You can view the recording HERE. A second meeting is scheduled for September 2023.

A networking activity is currently underway to facilitate relationships among members and promote collaborations and alliances. We invite you to consult this FOLDER where you will find the template file. If you are interested, please download the template, fill it out, and send it back to the following email address (by submitting your file, you authorize us to use it for the network's objectives). In the same folder, you will also find the presentation made during the first meeting.

The second meeting, held on November 16, 2023, left a very positive balance with almost 50 people actively participating in the meeting. You can see the recording of the meeting HERE. The presentation file HERE and the survey here (survey available until November 25).

The request to participate in the network structuring committees was also well received, with volunteers for the three committees. If you wish to participate in a committee, please add your name HERE.

Below are some of the data left by the meeting, you can see all the responses HERE:

Currently the committees are working on the structuring and formalization of the network, we will soon publish news on the next steps.

If you would like to receive information about this network or participate in its implementation, and for any questions, please send us an email to cleic@fsaa.ulaval.ca

We invite you to pass the information along to anyone who may be interested in participating in this effort!

At the second meeting a representative of the IFW2024 congress organization launched a warm invitation to participate in the congress, all the information HERE.
